Jalan Tun Dr Awang is a major road in the southern part of Penang Island. It runs from the Bayan Baru Roundabout to the Bayan Lepas Flyover. Jalan Tun Dr Awang was named after Tun Datuk Dr Haji Awang bin Hassan, the 5th Yang di-Pertua Negeri or Governor of Penang, who served from 1981 to 1989.
Jalan Tun Dr Awang is the main road out of the Penang International Airport. When it was built, it acted as a bypass to the busier Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah. Since then, it has also became equally busy, with the heaviest traffic between the Bayan Baru Roundabout and Jalan Dato Ismail Hashim
